Three Serbs were arrested on  May 7th in Italy because they forcibly seized money and gold from villas owners in small towns at the Italian coast.

Italian press describes the beating as brutal, because the victims were often beaten severely with bats and other objects.

It is generally-known that such villas on the Apennines are often owned by the notorious leaders of Cosa Nostra, mafia organization which has been terrorizing Sicily and Italy for centuries.

Villas were robbed from 11 to 30 March, and the Serbs arrested are Milovan R. (43), Danijel D. (19) and a minor S.S. (16). The first who was arrested in March was the gang leader Ljubiša K. (23).

The manner of robberies was not sophisticated at all, but it was extremely effective for them. They wore masks and gloves and under threats of beating people with bats and similar objects, they snatched money and jewelry from people late in the evening. In almost all cases, those who resisted were beaten.

The action of finding and arresting the gang lasted for more than a month, and was carried out with the use of listening devices and constant monitoring. Eventually, the evidence collected were enough for the prosecutor in Palermo to issue arrest warrant for the three Serbs.

The additional problem in finding the robbers was the fact that they were all homeless who arrived in Italy from Serbia a long time ago and know Sicily very well.

Since they could flee the country, they were taken into custody and detained. A teenager, who participated equally in the crimes with his older colleagues, was transferred to the center for juvenile delinquents in Parla, and he will remain there until giving evidence in court.
