HISTORICAL DAY: Government proposed abolishing visas with China

If the Chinese government accepts the proposition of Serbia, the citizens of Serbia won't be needing visas for staying in China up to 30 days, and that decision could be in power by the end of the year

Serbian government will propose to China abolishing of visas for the citizens of these two countries, it was decided last night on the Government meetings in Nis, and the Minister for foreign affairs Ivica Dacic and the China ambassador Li Mechang, marked that this is the historical day for these two countries.

If the Chinese government accepts the proposition of Serbia, the citizens of Serbia won't be needing visas for staying in China up to 30 days, and that decision could be in power by the end of the year, said Dacic, after the Government meeting where the Chinese ambassador was present, who said that he is confident it will happen.

It will have great positive benefits for the development of cooperation in all areas - from political relationship, to tourism, said Dacic and added that the government came to conclusion unanimously.

- We expect great number of Chinese tourists in Serbia, and it is a good news for our citizens. It will allow Chinese businessmen to come without visa, and the cooperation in culture, science, education, sport will be stronger - said Dacic.

He added that the agreement about mutual visa-free regime is a mark of friendship towards China and and mutual trust that has been built, with the agreement about strategic partnership, visit of Chinese president to Serbia and activities whiting the initiative about cooperation of China with 16 countries of Central and Eastern Europe (CIE).

He noted that the Summit will be held in Riga on 5. and 6. November with China and 16 countries of CIE, where our delegation will be lead by prime minister Aleksandar Vucic and signing of many important treaties is expected.

This decision is really of historical character. Maybe it doesn't sound like a great news, but Serbia has agreements with 63 countries and our goal is to abolish visas with as many countries as possible - said Dacic.

Li said that Serbia is the first country in Europe China is prepared to sign the treaty, which proves that peoples of two countries share mutual respect and trust.

He said that, when agreement comes to power, more Chinese tourists will come to Serbia, investors, and more Serbs will travel to China.

Li said that, after the decision of Serbian government, China will soon start the procedure and he is sure that they will reach the same resolution.

We will sign the agreement quickly and it will come to power immediately - said Li.
