Most citizens, 84% of them, do not support Serbia's membership in NATO, two thirds of citizens (66%) believe that the NATO bombing of the FRY could be avoided, and the largest number sees Slobodan Milosevic's policy as a reason for bombing (17%), the research of the Institute of European affairs in cooperation with Ninamedia.

The research where 1.203 citizens answered the questions about the reasons for the bombing, the cooperation of Serbia with the Alliance, and the acceptance of apology between 16 to 20 March this year, showed that people of Belgrade want the see Serbia in NATO the least, even twice as less than citizens of south and east Serbia.

62% of the people wouldn't accept the apology, while one third would, which are mostly young people. Mostly the people between 30-44 years and the people from the region of Belgrade, west Serbia and Sumadija are against it.

Most of the people think that Serbia can not benefit from the membership in NATO, 68 percent of them, and the relations of Serbia and NATO received a passing grade - two. However, most of the citizens marked them as one, and only 3.6 percent of the people think that the relationship is excellent.

When it comes to cooperation, it is mostly supported by highly educated people, 26 percent of the respondents, and 66 percent oppose the cooperation between Serbia and Alliance.

They remind from the Institute that the responsibility of the "political elites" hasn't been confirmed yet for the policy of the nineties, 19 years after the bombing, and they say that the state institutions didn't determine the approximate number of victims of the bombing.

Referring to the Fund of Humanitarian Law Database, the Institute states that 758 people lost their lives in NATO bombing.
