Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said in Sofia today that he and his Greek counterpart Alexis Tsipras discussed a name dispute that would be acceptable to both sides and expects the solution to be found in June before the EU leaders' summit.

Zaev told reporters that the agreement over this multi-year dispute depends on many factors and if no agreement is reached by June, efforts to find the solution will continue.

- We discussed several options and one of them is acceptable for both sides - Zaev said without specifying the option.

He added that the consultations will be continued and that he believes that, if possible, the solution will be found.

The EU Council meeting is scheduled for June 25 and 26 in Brussels.

If the progress is made in solving the name dispute of Macedonia, that country will have the chance not only to start the negotiations about the EU membership, but also to join NATO. 

The attempts of Macedonia to join NATO and EU were blocked for many years by Greece, which considers that the Republic of Macedonia has pretensions towards the northern Greek province of the same name.

They exchanged the possible options of "creative solutions" presented by the Macedonian side in the final phase of the negotiations.

Zaev said that the friendly relations between Macedonia and Greece are even stronger and that he guarantees that his country, when it comes to EU, will have strong institutions and the rule of law, and that they will secure a chance for the youth.
