Although many of our citizens look for jobs in other countries in the region, more and more foreigners decide to look for work in our country, and in the first six months of this year, 4,114 foreigners were granted work permits in Serbia.

A man from Subotica has gathered 600.000 dinars in coins in 7 years, and when he wanted to invest them he realized that he was in a deep problem

According to the National Employment Service data, the number of licenses issued is growing every year. So, in 2015, 6,362 work permits were issued in total, 2016 - 7,340, while last year there were 7,647.

Approval of temporary residence and work permit is what is common to all foreigners working in Serbia, and the difference lies in the basis for the approval of temporary residence and obtaining a work permit, so the documentation that is submitted is different.

As Kamatica finds out, most foreign citizens seeking work permits come from China, Russia, Italy, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece ... and work permits were mostly issued in Belgrade - 5,093, followed by Novi Sad and Nis.

Work permits were mostly requested by foreigners who were hired in another company abroad, but they are sent to work in Serbia, and for such permit, they needed to show their passports and employment contract that specifies the period of engagement, a certificate of available money in the account, work biography...

Then there is employment of staff that is insufficient in our country, and in that case the domestic company applies for a work permit for a foreigner to the National Employment Service, and the condition for obtaining this license is that there are no persons with qualifications required by the employer to work on a position on which a foreign citizen will be employed.

Work permits are issued to foreigners who most often establish their own entrepreneurial agencies and thus cooperate with other companies. Lately, in the IT sector, more and more companies are taking part in this kind of cooperation, instead of hiring people, so this trend has not bypassed foreigners who are here or are coming to Serbia to work with domestic IT companies. Before submitting an application to the Foreigners' Office, the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs must register an entrepreneurial agency that is kept under the Business Registers Agency.

Finally, when all the documentation is collected, it is necessary to pay 13,470 dinars (around 110 euros) as well as the state tax for issuing a work permit.

- Depending on the way of engagement, the foreign citizen in Serbia will pay taxes or not. If he registers himself as an entrepreneur or establishes a working relationship in Serbia then he enters the insurance system like all other employees in our country. The situation is different when it comes to a foreigner who, for example, is sent to our country and works in the same company as in his own country, then remains in the insurance system of the state from which he is sent - Kamatica learns.

In addition to workers from neighboring countries, as well as many European countries, work permits in our country were also given to citizens of some countries that are far away from Serbia. So, last year, persons from the countries Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, El Salvador, Ecuador, Jamaica, Kyrgyzstan received a work permit...

Two people were given work permits from Argentina, Colombia, Gabon, Guinea, Uruguay, the United Arab Emirates, Zimbabwe and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The most numerous in 2017 were Chinese citizens. A total of 1,661 work permits were issued to them, of which 429 were for women.
