Serbia's agriculture trade surplus grows 49 percent

Over the first five months of 2015, Serbia posted a surplus of EUR 483 million in agriculture and food trade with the world, but also an increase of imports of these products to the country

The surplus grew 49 percent against a year earlier, Serbian Agriculture Minister Snezana Bogosavljevic-Boskovic told Tanjug.

The value of food exported from Serbia from January until the end of May exceeds EUR 1 billion, and the principal exports were grains and products made from grains, and fruit and vegetables, the minister said.

Exports to the EU increased 20 percent and to CEFTA countries they were up 14 percent, while exports to other countries grew by about 39 percent.

Serbia’s fruit and vegetables trade saw a surplus of EUR 100 million.

When it comes to imports, a total of EUR 543 million worth of agriculture and food products was imported to Serbia in the first five months of the year, a four percent growth against a year before.

Food was imported mostly from the EU (66 percent of total imports), while imports from CEFTA countries accounted for 11 percent and imports from other countries for 25 percent of total imports, with coffee, tea and spices being the principal imports from other countries.

Serbia also posted a positive balance of trade when it comes to milk and milk products.
