Milos Babic (58) from Sekovici, was wounded in the last war, and he has been fighting the with lung cancer for three years now. In addition to all the suffering he has been through, he claims that he has been a victim of a fraud. He said that the doctor of alternative medicine Slavko Zec from Serbia, who charged him 1.000 euros for treatment and consultations, gave him advice "borrowed" from a famous American doctor.

When Serb and Croat join forces: They stole 100.000 euros from Poles

A bullet passed through Babic's lung during the war and he never fully recovered from the consequences.

After numerous operations and chemotherapy, when medicine was doing its best and there was no drug, the family of this war-disabled military turned to natural methods of treatment. They saw the advertisement of Dr. Slavko Zec on the Internet.

- We watched a tv show where he said that he first cured his wife who had metastases in the lungs with raw food. Milos had one fifth of the lung removed, and we decided to call him. Perhaps we were naive, but a man in trouble doesn't think much, we have no time, it was the matter of days - said Milos' wife Snezana Babic.

- He offered the first option over mail which costs 500 and he will make a web page which will be available only to us and we will have some instructions for treatment. The second option is 1.000 euros and it includes regular consultation and the third option of 2.000 euros includes everything mentioned with certain tinctures he makes which he sends to the patients - said Babic.

Dr. Zec offered them the possibility to take the most expensive therapy of 2.000 euros and he will get a discount of 300 euros if he "advertised him on the facebook a little bit".

After sending data and within the financial possibilities, they decided to take the 1.000 treatment. Babic family got the code and they used it to access the internet page which was allegedly made only for Milos.

- Our fight has been lasting for years with this sickness, so we read a lot and we learned about alternative medicine. Our everyday life is reading the books about treatment, watching videos on Youtube about natural methods. To say that we were shocked would be an underestimate when we saw that Zec literally copied the sentences of American physician Richard Schulz as his own. We immediately understood with who we are dealing with. He took the money for something which was already published and available without using his site - Snezana Babic said.

They were even more affected by inhuman treatment besides lost money because the last hope for healing fell into the water. Snezana mentioned that they had consultations only once, and when they called him again, he didn't answer.

Zec offered to return the part of the money when Snezana's son published the correspondence with him and started publicly speaking about "his" treatment methods. When they didn't accept that, the threats started that he will sue them for defamation.

- Our son wrote and asked for a refund because we didn't get anything in return. But Zec told him he can only return 100 euros because he paid for the programmer for the internet page with the program of diet. It is not about the money, the truth is that we are not working, and our son is supporting us, but it's hard to see that some people are getting rich on other people's misfortune - said Snezana.

In the meantime, we tried to get in touch with Slavko Zec, but with no success.

We talked with prof. Dr. Radoje Colovic, the president of Serbian Doctor's society and prof. Dr. Ratko Bozovic, sociologist, on this subject.

- I am going next to the Institute of Oncology every day and I see a number of self-proclaimed doctors of alternative medicine who offer help to the people who are sick with cancer and they guarantee the cure. There are a lot of people who were crossed, who are desperate and who will take such offers, but it is also very hard to talk about that, and it's even harder to judge them. But if they see that they were victims of fraud at the end, I think it's their civil and moral duty to report those people to the police. Especially if they have some written evidence or payment. Many of them feel ashamed for going for that story, but the people who are making money off of them should be ashamed.

Dr. Ratko Bozovic considers this a very sensitive topic and that there should be a whole team of people working with sick people.

- When it is an incurable disease, especially with the people who "have their days numbered" they go for all sorts of things, so common sense is not playing a large role. People suffer, they are afraid, disoriented, which is all the cause to make wrong choices. That is when they go for some "solution" that people offer.

Although severely wounded in the war, Milos Babic renounced a combat pension for the benefit of others who needed the help more, which only shows his humanity.

After numerous calls, talks, we managed to get Slavko Zec to return the money to these people, which is only a small step, but also not the solution because there are thousands of people more who are prays of various "doctors" who are using the sickness and the desperation of people to get their money.
