Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Director of the World Economic Forum for Europe and Eurasia, Martina Larkin, signed a Memorandum of Understanding between Serbia and the World Economic Forum today.

Is EU membership by 2025 a mission impossible or is there a possible twist which was announced in September?

Larkin said that the economic progress achieved by Serbia in the previous period was noticeable.

The Prime Minister emphasized that by signing this memorandum, Serbia has another reliable partner in the development of entrepreneurship, the promotion of innovation and knowledge-based economy, while the World Economic Forum has gained a significant partner in this part of Europe, the government's Office for Media Cooperation announced.

In this way, Serbia has received another confirmation of the economic reforms that it implemented in the previous period.

- This is a confirmation that the Government of Serbia looks into the future and is working to create conditions for development and progress that no generation has ever had - said Brnabic, who is a member of the "New Leaders for Europe" group within the World Economic Forum.

She also pointed out that the results of this cooperation will be visible throughout the region, not only in Serbia because several large regional initiatives are planned.

She said that it will be the establishment of the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the organization of the regional South East Europe Summit in 2019, the establishment of the Western Balkans Competitiveness Council and cooperation with the World Economic Forum on Internet security, the prime minister said.

Expressing the belief that this memorandum will help develop the entire region, she stated:

- We will talk about science and how to work together with the World Economic Forum in order to make the Western Balkans develop more rapidly and to modernize the economy, strengthen co-operation and stability, because without a stable region there is no single stability or economic development - Brnabic concluded.

- Serbia has shown all the potential for its further development and, more importantly, has shown that it has the potential to be a catalyst for progress throughout the region. We support Serbia's focus on modern technologies and I want to personally thank the President of the Government, Ana Brnabic, for her efforts and commitment to sign this agreement - said Larkin.

The signing of this memorandum is the result of a series of joint initiatives of the Government of Serbia, as well as the President of the Republic of Serbia, with the World Economic Forum and the confirmation of the vision shared by the Government and this prestigious international organization, whose focus is the future and development chances provided by the fourth industrial revolution.

Serbia has thus become the only country in the region that has signed a direct Memorandum of Understanding with the World Economic Forum, which speaks of the attention given by the World Economic Forum to Serbia and recognizing the potential of Serbia - from the economy to education, science, and innovation.

The World Economic Forum is an international non-profit organization that has been gathering decision-makers together, ever since 1971, who influence global economic trends and it analyzes strategies related to the most current political, economic, social and security issues.
