This will, inter alia, enable cooperation between CERN and the domestic economy

The Serbian flag was solemnly raised in Geneva in front of the building of CERN in the presence of the prime minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, due to the accession of our country in the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).

Slovenia received its Nobel Prize winner: A distinguished scientist took the oath and received Slovenian citizenship

- I am happy and proud that Serbia today officially becomes the 23rd full member of CERN. Membership is important because, thanks to it, Serbia has the opportunity to compete with the best and win in that race, although we weren't able even to compete with the best a few years ago - said Brnabic.

Brnabic said that she hopes that full membership in CERN will give another signal to our young scientists to stay in Serbia since they will have the opportunity to participate in full capacity in all the most prestigious and most challenging scientific projects and research that this organization implemented.

The Prime Minister also pointed out that CERN membership is also important for the domestic economy, given the increased opportunity for cooperation between CERN and the domestic economy. Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Mladen Sarcević also attended the raising of the flag in Geneva.

In mid-December last year, Serbia became the 23rd full member of CERN by the unanimous adoption of the Council's resolution of that organization. After that, at the end of March this year, CERN received a formal confirmation from UNESCO that Serbia has acceded to the CERN Convention.

Serbia thus became the fourth country outside the European Union that gained full membership in this prestigious organization.
