Tourists, hikers, fishermen and locals living in the Tara area were shocked by the appearance of the dried Zaovine lake, but it seems that the lake is slowly getting its old look back.

The level of Zaovine lake dropped drastically a month ago, the bays were dry and only the slopes remained when the water went down the drains. Even the foundations of the homes and tombstones appeared.

Not many things remained from this watery jewel surrounded by the forests of Picea Omorika, and many people living in the vicinity complain that the foundations of their homes started cracking.

It seems that the situation is better because the lake is getting its old looks back. 

Zaovine lake is on the mountain Tara near the place Zaovine and it is an artificial lake. It appeared in the period between 1975 to 1983, when the flow of Beli Rzav was blocked with damns up to the top of Kik (958 m above sea level). At the highest water level, the surface of the lake is at the altitude 881.5 meters. The greatest depth is around 110 meters.

The lake is complemented by two streams of Konjska Reka and Beli Rzav. 

Zaovine lake is within the National park Tara and the employees in this facility are bitter with the current level of accumulation of water and they point out at the consequences of extensive discharging of the water.
