Bags, bottles, cans... all of that came probably from Romania, and sadly, it is not unusual, says Minister of Environmental Protection Goran Trivan for Telegraf.
- As soon as the rains start, the level of water increases and it picks up everything that we throw next to the river. Part of it comes from abroad, but we are no better, we put garbage into the rivers on our own. It is nothing new, but it is important to change the way of thinking that we shouldn't throw anything outside of the trash can - said Trivan.
It's not hard to imagine the trash which we can see next to the river, piles of everything. It is a terrible image and ecological neglect, but if it only organic waste, the consequences are not so dramatic.
- It depends on what it is. Depending on the type of waste and pollution. The organic waste doesn't have such a dramatic influence. However, bags are killing a lot of animals because they can choke on them - said Trivan.
The most dangerous is chemical pollution. Fish can die in large numbers due to it.
- The priority of the Ministry is and will be wastewater treatment. In addition to urban wastewater, industrial wastewater treatment is also important. All companies will have to put into operation processing systems - adds Trivan.
Dirty Tamis, even if he comes from Romania, only warns of our negligent and hostile attitude towards nature. If you look at any Serbian river, you will see bags, trash, bottles, toilets, sofas... All of that is pilled up and then nature "shows" us what we have done to it.
- It is important for the public to reach, to take photos of such cases - said Trivan and reminds about the interesting cases which were completed thanks to the citizens who weren't ashamed of spreading the footages.
A group of young men was fined because they cut a tree in Kosutnjak, and a woman got a fine who was photographed throwing a bag with garbage into the river.
- There aren't so many inspectors who can control everything... We need to raise people's awareness - Trivan concludes.
