The attention to these people was once again brought by the BiH basketball player Jusuf Nurkic.

It was an incredible provocation of Nurkic, and numerous negative comments appeared on social networks by a lot of bitter people who think that the sports event is not the place for such a move. 

The discussion started immediately who are those people whose names were on the shirt of the famous basketball player. All of them died during the wars in the nineties, and most of them killed civilians next to the Serbian and Croatian soldiers.

IZET NANIC

Izet Nanic was a Brigadier General of Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he was the commander of the 505th Buzim Knights Brigade of the 5th Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He spent his service in the former Yugoslav National Army, as lieutenant of the Anti-Air defense. He left the YNA after four years, at the beginning of 1992. He went to his family to Buzim, he starts participating in organizing the defense and forming first military units.

He is the founder of the 105th Buzim Territorial Krajina Brigade, which was formed on August 15, 1992. He formed special units of CSN-BSN "Hamza" and DIV "Gazija" of the 5th Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Nanic was killed on August 5, 1995 (29 years old) on the first day of Operation Storm in a wider area of Corkovaca in an operation which aimed to merge the units of the 5th Corp of the Army of Republic of BiH and the Croatian military.

Only a few hours before the final unblocking and joining forces of the Army of the Republic of BiH with the Croatian army, he was killed from ambush. Monuments were erected for Nanic and his brother Nevzet in his birthplace near Buzim. He was posthumously awarded the "Order of the Hero of the Liberation War" in 1998 and was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General.

SAFET HADZIC

Safet Hadzic was a Bosnian politician, president of the Crisis Staff of the Sarajevo region and organizer of resistance during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was killed on April 18, 1992 (39 years old) in an action to remove weapons at the weapon factory Pretis in Vogosca.

He posthumously received the rank of Brigadier General and was decorated with war prizes: the Golden Lily in 1992 and the highest military decoration of the Order of the Warrior of War in 1994. He was one of the founders of the Party of Democratic Action of Sarajevo (PDA), the first president of the PDA Novi Grad and one of the founders of PDA Rudog.

After the outbreak of war in Slovenia and Croatia, Hadzic was one of the founders of the Patriotic League, which was later merged into the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He gathered officers who left the Yugoslav People's Army and included them in the Patriotic League.

He had an operational headquarters from where he issued orders. He died in an ambush.

MEHDIN HODZIC

Mehdin Hodzic was a Bosnian soldier and a member of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the period before the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he worked as a police officer in Split. At the beginning of the war in Croatia, he left and in late 1991 came to Bosnia and Herzegovina. During that period he joined the Patriotic League and organized the fighting in the north-eastern Bosnia.

Then on April 25, 1992, in the free part of the Zvornik municipality, he assumed the post of commander of the TG Territorial Defense of the municipality of Zvornik in Sapna. He died on May 10, 1992 (34 years old) in a battle at the village of Zaseok near Sapna.

MIDHAT HUJDUR

Midhat Hujdur, aka Hujka, was a member of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Hujdur commanded a battalion that counted 1,200 fighters in the First Mostar Brigade whose commander was Arif Pasalic. 

When Pasalic was appointed the commander of the fourth corps, Hujdur took over the command of the brigade, which would later become the 41st famous brigade. He died on June 30, 1993 (39 years old) and was buried in the Mostar Muslim cemetery, Sehitluci.

He was posthumously awarded the "Golden Lily" decorations and the Order of the Hero of the Liberation War of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In Mostar, many Serbs, brothers, fathers, and mothers were killed in these fights. 

HAJRUDIN MESIC

Hajrudin Mesic was the commander of the Muslim First Teocak Brigade during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was a member of the Patriotic League since its inception. Before the war, after the first democratic elections in BiH, he served as the commander of the police station in Ugljevik. After that, he goes to Teocak and becomes the commander of the Muslim Territorial Defense.

He was killed when he tried to break through with his unit the corridor towards Donja Kamenica and further towards Srebrenica, in the village Nezuk, on October 30, 1992. Hajrudin Mesic was leading an attack on the village of Gornja Baljkovica when 16 Serb civilians were killed. 

SAFET ZAJKO

Safet Zajko was a Bosnian-Herzegovinian fighter, a member of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and a winner of the highest war recognition Golden Lily.

On May 19, 1992, the first independent battalion of the District Defense Staff of Sarajevo and the 15th Infantry Brigade of the Territorial defense Novi Grad, was formed on July 1, 1992, originated from already formed units from this area. By further consolidating units and improving the organizational structure on October 1, 1992, the 2nd motorized brigade was formed, headed by Safet Zajko.

Only 5 days after the liberation of Mijatovic Kosa, on the hill Zuc, on June 17, 1993, Safet Zajko died during the scouting of hostile positions. He was buried as a martyr in the harem of the Al Pasha mosque in Sarajevo.

ENVER SEHOVIC

Enver Sehovic was a member of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the commander of the 1st Knights Motorized Brigade. He was posthumously decorated with the highest military decorations of the Order of the Liberation War Hero, as well as the Golden Lily Award.

After leaving the YNA, on April 6, 1992, he entered the Armed Forces of the Republic of BiH and immediately started forming a military unit in the Velesici settlement in Sarajevo. At the beginning of July 1992, he was appointed the commander of the 13th Novo Sarajevo Brigade.

He became the commander of the newly formed 1st Motorized Brigade during the phase of consolidation the Army units, the 1st Mechanized and 12th Mountain Brigade.

He became famous in bloody fights while commanding the 1st Glorious (later Knight) motorized brigade. He died on July 27, 1993, during a battle for Golo Brdo in Zuca. He is buried in the harem of the Al Pasha mosque in Sarajevo. One street in Sarajevo bears his name.

ADIL BESIC

Adil Besic was a Bosnian officer and a member of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was born in Kozarac, in the municipality of Prijedor. Captain of YNA, and since 1992 he was a member of the Territorial Defense of Bihac.

Besic, as commander of the 2nd Battalion of the 502nd Famous Fifth Mountain Brigade of the Fifth Corps, died on November 28, 1992, while performing a combat mission in the Grabez region.

He was posthumously awarded him with decorations: The Golden Lily and the Order of the Hero of the Liberation War of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

NESIB MALKIC

Nesib Malkic was a member of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was Commander of the 210/281. Knights Brigade. After his death, the name "Nesib Malkic" was added to its name.

He left the former YNA at the beginning of April in 1992, as a captain, and he offers himself to the municipal headquarters of the Territorial Defense of Kladanj. Then, on the 9th of May. In 1992, he was assigned to the position of the commander of the Territorial Defense Zivinice Company, and soon he became the head of the municipal staff of Territorial defense Zivinice.

He became the first commander of the 210th Mountain Brigade. He became the Chief of Staf when the Operational Group (OP-6) was formed, which was under the direct command of the Main Staf of the army of RBiH.

After the crimes in Stupno Dol, which were committed by Croatian Defence Council units, the brigade commanded by Nesib Malkic was tasked with controlling Vares. He was killed during the preparation of this task, during a commander's inspection on October 25, 1993, at the Crna Rijeka Plateau.

By the decree of the Presidency of the RBiH, on December 6 of the same year, he was awarded the Golden Lily. In 1994, Nesib Malkic was posthumously decorated with the Order of the Hero of the Liberation War. In 1996 he was posthumously promoted to the rank of Brigadier of the RBiH Army.
