Emine Erdogan's styling definitely didn't go unnoticed: She wears Islam's dominant color head to toe

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has arrived on a two-day official visit to Serbia, accompanied by his wife, Emine Erdogan. Turkey's 64-year-old first lady stepped off the plane dressed in green from head to toe - literally.

To the last detail, Emine wore green, the dominant color of Islam - from the traditional green scarf over her hair, her coat and shoes, to her purse, ring, and brooch - all were in the same color.

Whether Emine intentionally chose to be dressed in green is unknown, but here is what this color symbolizes in Islam:

Islamic prophet Muhammad is said to have worn a green robe and turban, and so one passage from the Quran describes paradise as a place where people will "wear green clothes made of fine silk."

Green also has other qualities that make it suitable for Islam and the Middle East - it is a symbol of nature and life, especially in desert areas, but according to Muhammad it symbolizes immortality.

Who is Emine Erdogan?

Emine was born in Uskudar, Istanbul. Her family is of Arab descent and comes from the southeastern province of Siirt. She is the youngest of five children. She attended art school but dropped out before graduation.

She joined the "Idealists Women's Association," meeting her husband during these activities. They were married on February 4, 1978 and have four children, Ahmet, Sumeyye, Necmetin Bilal and Esra.

Active in events

When her husband was elected the mayor of Istanbul, Emine began participating in many projects of great social importance.

She launched regular social gatherings that brought together the rich and the poor, meant to help marginalized social groups. She led the Center for Social Development in 2005 and supported projects for education of women and children.

Turkey's first lady played a significant role in opposing child marriage, noting that "forced child marriage is unacceptable under any circumstances."

With the Ministry of National Education, she launched a campaign across the country to address the issue of girls who are not allowed by their families to get an education. She then launched the "Mothers and Daughters at School" campaign to solve the problem of mothers who did not have the opportunity to learn to read.

Where do Emine and Recep live?

She and her husband live in a huge palace not far from the Turkish capital Ankara. The construction of this magnificent edifice cost 590 million euros. This palace is so grandiose that many say that it would embarrass Saddam Hussein, who was known for his love of gold and jewels. The building, also known as the "White Palace," cost twice as much as the original budget, and Erdogan pointed out that it is improving Turkey's image abroad.
