We'll do our best to bring Volkswagen to Serbia: Vucic says ahead of meeting with German minister

"I promised from the beginning that we would fight. These other countries cannot offer subsidies, which we can," said Vucic

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced last night that he would use today's meeting with German Economy Minister Peter Altmaier to once again try to bring Volkswagen to Serbia.

Vucic stressed that he could not promise anything because Serbia is not an EU member state, like Bulgaria or Romania, which were also considered before as the site for Volkswagen's new factory - nor does Serbia have a market as big as Turkey, which, by the way, was the first choice, but the events in Syria put a question mark over that investment.

"I promised from the beginning that we would fight. These other countries cannot offer subsidies, which we can," said Vucic, adding that there are also technical problems, although those have nothing to do with us.

"We'll do our best to bring Volkswagen. But I wouldn't want to give false hope. We will fight with all our heart, energy and strength," said the president, and joked:

"I'm preparing for that visit as if Bayern were coming to Red Star or Partizan... Altmaier's in trouble with how much I will bother him about Volkswagen," Vucic pointed out during his visit to Vrnjacka Banja.

At the same time, he announced that Pancevo would get another factory, adding that in this way that part of Serbia would be completely "solved" - and pointed out that a memorandum with a company manufacturing parts for airplanes was good news for Serbia.
