The new US ambassador to Belgrade, Anthony Godfrey, who recently took office, is using every day to get to know the Serbian capital, while one of his gestures has especially caught the attention of the Serbs.

He and his wife went to the Ruzica Orthodox church, where the diplomat crossed himself according to Orthodox custom - with three fingers, from right to left, and then lit candles.

The US embassy posted this video on its official Facebook page with the following comment: "What makes a Saturday afternoon? Walk around the city, explore the fortress, play a game of chess, go to church and the market. Ambassador Godfrey and his wife continue exploring their new home."

The move by the US ambassador has generated a lot of comments, with many speculating that it amounts to showing respect to religious tradition, while others claim that the ambassador is Orthodox, especially considering that he served as US representative in Russia before coming to Belgrade.
