Shooting as a warning? Nis baker survives hail of bullets; he may have been mistaken for his brother

A baker from Nis, 33-year-old R.M., survived a shooting this morning, which took place in Despota Stefana Street in the Durlan neighborhood of Nis, a town in southern Serbia.

"For now, we can say that at 4 o'clock this morning, a 33-year-old man was shot at but was not injured. The investigation is ongoing and the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office has been informed about everything," the police said.

The shoots were fired, and a next-door neighbor assumes this was a warning - not to the baker, but to his brother.

"Our neighbor the baker is a family man and has no links to any crime. His brother used to have problems with the law, but who knows whom the bullets were meant for, and whether the shooter mixed up the brothers. Some neighbors even came out when the shots were heard, but it was dark, you couldn't see anything in particular," one of the neighbors told the daily Kurir.

It is believed that the attacker knew when R.M. would leave for work, so he waited for him at dawn. As R.M. was unlocking his car, the unknown man fired - but it's highly unlikely that he didn't manage to hit anything, which is why the incident is assumed to be a classic warning.

Terrified, R.M. got in his car and drove for a couple of kilometers before calling the police.
