Construction of Ruma-Sabac highway, new bridge on Sava starts: Project worth 467.5 million euros

Works to build the highway and the expressway Ruma-Sabac-Loznica have begun near Sabac, where a new bridge on the Sava will be built.

The commencement of construction was attended by President Aleksandar Vucic, Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic, Karaman Akhmedov, Deputy President of the contractor, Azerbaijani company Azvirt, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Serbia Eldar Hasanov, and Azvirt workers.

The total length of this road is 77 kilometers, while the estimated value of the project is 467.5 million euros.

The commercial contract for the construction of the Ruma-Sabac highway and the Sabac-Loznica expressway was signed on November 19 with the Azerbaijani company.

The construction of the Ruma-Sabac highway and the Sabac-Loznica expressway is one of the priority projects in road transport, considering its importance in connecting and developing Srem, Macva and Western Serbia and Vojvodina, but also connecting this part of Serbia with the region, primarily with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The route of the future state road of IB order was determined on the basis of the general design, the plan of the special purpose area and the harmonization with representatives of the local self-government.

The project is divided into three sections: section 1 of the Ruma-Sabac highway that will be 21.14 kilometers long, section 2 - the bridge over the Sava River that will be 1,337.5 meters long and section 3 - the Sabac-Loznica expressway (54.58 kilometers).

The work on this project will begin in section 2.

The new road will bring together Srem and Macva districts and solve long-standing problems of the local population and meet the demands of the economy of the region. Up to 15,000 vehicles pass every day along the direction from Sabac to Ruma, through Klenak, Platicevo, Hrtkovci and Jarak.

The highway will be built from Ruma to the left bank of the Sava River and the village of Klenak, in the length of 21.14 kilometers. The expressway will be built on the right bank of the Sava River and will be about 55 kilometers long.

They will be connected with a new bridge on the Sava River, which will be more than 1,300 meters long. The work begins on the Sava bank, where the base and the checkpoint will be located in an area of 3 hectares.
