Rade Ciric, a war veteran who was both in Kosovo and in Vukovar, from the village of Sinja Glava near Pirot, and who lived in an almost collapsed house, was rescued by amateur radio operators last week. They learned that this man had suffered a stroke and that there was no one to take him to the doctor down a road blocked by snowdrifts.

This veteran was found freezing, covered with all the things he had in his house to keep warm.

Rade initially refused to go to the doctor because he didn't even have an ID card, so he was afraid he would not be admitted, but the Pirot amateur radio operators were persistent and managed to take him to a health facility where he was given medical assistance.

One of the humane people who helped Rade, amateur radio operator Milan Radovanovic, has asked all goodwill people who can to donate money to help Ciric.

Radovanovic says that in recent days plenty of clothes and shoes have been collected for the veteran who is likely to be housed in one of the shelters for adults living alone.

By chance or fate, a few days after helping the unfortunate man Radovanovic had a traffic accident injuring several ribs, when he had to have an X-ray.

This humane man tells Telegraf.rs that even after the car acciden he went to visit Rade about whom he is very concerned, and to bring him the good news that some money was collected to help him.

"We raised about 157,000 dinars (about 1,300 euros), a lot of clothes and shoes for Rade. I told him how much money we had raised, and he was just shaking his head, in the sense of, 'I'm not interested in that now' - but he kept asking me how I was doing, since my colleague who visited him told him I had been in a traffic accident," Milan says.

He also added that it was now most important for Rade to be in a safe and warm place and to recover slowly, though he it wasn't all the same to him that he would not be able to return to his old home.

Milan Radovanovic has said those who want to, and can help Rade can do that by paying a cash donation to his personal account 115-0038166002212-65 Radovanovic Milan, village Barje Ciflik bb 18300 Pirot.

"To make sure there is no speculation later, each payment and handover of money to Rade will be made public," Milan said.
