It's official: No Serbian clubs will compete in Europa League starting in 2021!

Serbian football will be in trouble starting in 2021 as no Serbian clubs will be able to compete in the Europa League. This is because after a new competition, the Conference League, launches in the 2021/22 seaon, only teams from those countries ranked among the top 15 will be able to play in the Europa League.

Serbia was very much so fighting for the national coefficient this season. At one point, it seemed that the 15th place was close, and besides bringing in the qualifiers for the Europa League, it also gives two places in the qualifiers for the top competition, the Champions League.

However, with Red Star's defeat 1-0 last night at the hands of Olympiacos in Piraeus, Serbia was left with no chance of reaching the 15th place. However, Dinamo Zagreb's elimination from the Champions League ensured we will finish the year ahead of Croatia. This the next Serbian champion will start the season 2021/22 in the second round of the Champions League qualifiers.

Serbia is currently ranked 18th, with Croatia, with Greece, Cyprus and Scotland - which is currently ranked 15th - all ahead of it.

With good European performances of Red Star and Partizan and maybe some other Serbian team, our country could attack the 15th place more seriously next season and try to secure two places in the Champions League qualifiers for the season 2022/23, but also return to the Europa League qualifiers.

What is certain is that in 2021 we will not have a single club in the Europa League qualifiers. The only chance for any of our clubs to get in that competition is for the champion to fail in the qualifications for the Champions League.
