US president's special envoy for the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Richard Grenell, said today on the occasion of the signing of a letter of intent to reestablish the air route between the two cities that President Donald Trump "once again led us to a historic victory."

Grenell, who is also the US ambassador in Berlin, thanked on Twitter Lufthansa, NATO and US National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien as well as leaders in Belgrade and Pristina.

"President Donald Trump once again led us to an historic victory," he tweeted,  stating that Pristina and Belgrade today "signed an agreement to create the first direct flight in 21 years. "

A delegation of the Ministry of Economy signed a letter of intent with Lufthansa in Berlin today to reestablish Belgrade-Pristina flights.

Thus, after two decades, the first symbolic step has been taken to reestablish air traffic between the capital of Serbia and the largest city in the southern Serbian province of Kosovo and Metohija, said a statement from the Ministry of Economy.

In order for flights between Belgrade and Pristina to actually be launched, it is necessary for the government of the provisional institutions of self-government in Pristina to immediately abolish their anti-civilizational taxes of 100 percent on goods from central Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, start implementing numerous commitments, and return to the table in the dialogue taking place under EU's auspices.

Stoltenberg: A very important step has been taken

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg today welcomed the signing of the letter of intent to reestablish the Belgrade-Pristina route.

He said it was a very important step, which will "enable for easier and faster flow of people and goods in the Western Balkans."

A statement on NATO's official website said that, in accordance with UN Resolution 1244, the KFOR commander is still in control of the airspace above Kosovo and Metohija.
