A two-day search in Croatia for Serbian citizen Ivan Djordjevic, 31, who escaped from a prison hospital where he was taken from the Remetinac prison has ended. He was apprehended around 9 pm on Monday in a Zagreb hostel.

The Croatian police immediately informed all the border crossings about that he had escaped, while the judicial police officers informed the police, followed by a warrant being issued against him.

According to media reports, prisoner Ivan Djordjevic on Sunday morning told the Remetinec prison police in Zagreb that he had swallowed something. Respecting the procedure, they took him to the hospital in Vinogradska Street to see if he had actually swallowed anything and if it was dangerous to his health.

The man then asked to be allowed to use the toilet. They allowed it, but when he didn't return after a while, they realized he had escaped.

As Djordjevic's residence is in our country and his family lives here, all border crossings were immediately alerted, while a further investigation will determine whether the escape was planned and whether he had one or more helpers.

Otherwise, Djordjevic had been sentenced to four years in prison for human trafficking. The verdict is not final.

The website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Croatia has several Serbian citizens for whom warrants have been issued.
