Video of Kraljevo incident: Man steals alcohol, fights with security: "It's not the first time"

"It is important to note that this is not the first time this person has committed the crime of theft, because on June 28, also in this store, he tried to commit the same crime," the Mercator S retail chain explained

A video showing a man hitting a security guard in a Roda market in Kragujevac has appeared on social networks. Mercator S, the owner, told Telegraf that the man was caught stealing.

The video first shows a man in the store with a bag in his hand wanting to pass through, but security stops him. There was some pushing, and then the man hits a security guard in the face.

The security guard catches the man, who then ended up on the floor, after which the guard placed him on a bench. Another security guard approached them.

However, the man continues to argue with them and ends up on the floor again, and then again on the bench.

Mercator S replied to Telegraf by saying that the situation in question arose due to attempted theft and violent behavior.

"The person from the video tried to commit the crime of stealing alcoholic beverages on June 30, at around 8 pm, in a Roda store in Kragujevac. Our colleagues from security first asked the person to hand over the product and to calmly wait for the police to arrive. Considering that the person verbally and physically threatened our colleagues, they were forced to physically detain that person until the arrival of the police," Mercator said.

Mercator added that the police and the prosecutor's office of the City of Kragujevac are taking over further proceedings in this case.

"It is important to note that this is not the first time the person from the video has committed the crime of theft, because on June 28, also in this store, he tried to commit the same crime," the company added.

Otherwise, media reported earlier that the incident occurred because the man did not wear a protective mask, which is mandatory in closed door facilities - but that, judging by the company's reply, was not the case.

Mercator added that when it comes to security measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 infection, this company has installed Plexiglas protective barriers on cash registers, the stores have floor markings that help consumers maintain a distance of 2 meters, and all workers in a facility wear gloves and masks.

"When it comes to consumers, in order to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 infection, the City of Kragujevac has declared an emergency situation, and prescribes mandatory wearing of masks indoors," the company added.

Telegraf has sent questions to the Ministry of Interior regarding this event.

Meanwhile, in Kragujevac, coronavirus was confirmed in 23 more people yesterday, according to the latest data from the local Institute of Public Health. There are 267 people in home isolation in the city where an emergency situation was declared on Saturday, while 58 patients have been hospitalized in the Clinical Center Kragujevac.
