Two nightclubs that stayed open after 11 pm were fined during the weekend, while as many were penalized in the night between Saturday and Sunday, and as of this morning, teams that will be fining citizens caught in public transport and closed public facilities without a mask are on the ground, Mayor of Belgrade Zoran Radojicic has told RTS.

"Last night, 130 establishments were inspected. The night before, at the request of citizens, 29 out of 120 were checked. Both last night and the night before, two establishments each night were found open after 11 pm and they received mandatory fines. Of course, we cannot control every establishment in the sense that we can't enter behind closed doors, but I think that through social networks a certain type of information and misinformation spreads in an inadequate way and the illusion spreads that this is happening often and a lot. Not much has happened in the previous two days," said Mayor Radojicic.

When it comes to handing out fines for not wearing masks, this started on Monday morning at 7 o'clock.

"Yesterday the situation was satisfactory. It's obvious that information about the importance of wearing masks is reaching people and that an increasing number are wearing masks. This morning, from 7 o'clock, our communal services, together with the inspection of the Ministry of Health are on the ground and will carry out controls. The point is not in the fines, the point is to be aware of the problems and aware that if we adhere to the measures today, in 7 to 10 days we will have significantly less need to form such (Covid) hospitals," he said while standing in front of the Belgrade Arena which is becoming a temporary place for treatment of coronavirus cases.

Radojicic added that it will not be possible to control each of the 10,000 establishments and 1,350 buses in Belgrade, and that this is not the goal.

"The essence is to control certain ones by random selection and in that way send a message to arrogant people that they must not behave that way for their own sake, and for the sake of those around them," said Radojicic.

He also announced that the temporary Covid hospital in the Belgrade Arena will receive first patients this afternoon.

"During the night, people worked on forming rooms with hospital beds. The Army brought the beds, which will be set up, disinfection will be done, I believe that in the afternoon this space will be ready to receive first patients," said Radojicic, adding that those will not be asymptomatic patients, as had been the case earlier.
