"Capacities in Belgrade are at their maximum, all Covid hospitals are over 90 percent full," Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar said at today's conference.

Loncar said that the Institute of Rheumatology with additional capacities of over 100 beds will start working during the day.

"Rounds are are underway in hospitals in Belgrade and in the temporary hospital Arena where we will see how many patients be discharged during the day or tomorrow so that other patients can get a bed, and what we have been doing for some time when we have problems with capacities in Belgrade, is send these patients to Smederevo, Pozarevac, Smederevska Palanka and all other hospitals, we are forced to do it in order to give everyone adequate care," said Loncar.

As for the age structure of people, Loncar said that they are also on ventilators, that they are on average younger than in the first peak, and that there are more and more patients who are considered young - in their 20s, 30s and 40s.

"What is important is that their treatment lasts longer, that the clinical picture is quite serious," he said.

When it comes to the clinical picture, Goran Stevanovic said it is now more difficult.

"Patients come with more severe forms of pneumonia when they are hospitalized, so hospitalization lasts longer. The average age is younger than it was during March or April. Now it is somewhere between 30 and 50 years of age," he said and added that most patients in intensive care are of that age.

He added that it is still stands that people who are older, people who have other serious diseases have a worse prognosis, but as he repeats, in the last month there have been significantly fewer patients of the older age group.

"I want to believe because that is because they really respect preventive measures most seriously, they are most careful and I thank them for that, while the population that is most active, that moves around the most, is the one getting infected the most at this time. There form a majority in outpatient clinics, in outpatient examinations, in the Arena, in home treatment, but unfortunately they are also a majority in intensive care units. In line with that is the age structure of those who are unfortunately losing the battle with this virus, also moving toward younger age groups."

Darija Kisic Tepavcevic added that "the reflection of the age structure of the sick, and unfortunately also of the dead, reflects exactly the population that applies preventive measures the least."
