Italy is blocking entry from Serbia, Montenegro and so-called Kosovo, after banning entry of citizens from 13 countries, including Bosnia-Herzegovina and North Macedonia.

"I signed an order to add Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo to the list of risky countries. Entry and transit for those who have stayed in those territories during the last 14 days is prohibited," Italian Health Minister Roberto Speranza said on Facebook.

The decision will block air, rail and other traffic that connects Italy with the said territories, the Ansa agency reported.

Speranza said that the world is facing the "most difficult phase" of the pandemic and that maximum caution is needed.

Italy previously banned arrivals from 13 countries, including Bosnia-Herzegovina and North Macedonia.

The European Union has removed Serbia from the list of safe countries from which non-essential travel is allowed.

The removal of Serbia from the list was a suggestion of Germany, which holds the EU presidency, and the proposal was supported by several countries, including France, Spain and the Netherlands, officials told Reuters.
