The Government of the Republic of Serbia made a decision today that the Serbian SuperLiga, the top-flight football competition in the country, as well as all other football competitions, can be held without the presence of the audience and while fully respecting all prescribed measures of protection against coronavirus.

There had been fears that the Serbian SuperLiga, whose start is scheduled for August 1, could be postponed, but after today's decision of the Government there is no doubt that the championship will start as planned.

Now, the only dilemma has been clarified and there will definitely be no audience at the start of the championship, and until the conditions to change this have been created.

Towards the end of the previous season, after the return of football, matches were originally played without fans in the stands, but soon, after all measures were relaxed, they were allowed to return to stadiums, so we had 20,000 fans at the Belgrade "eternal" derby when Red Star and Partizan clashed in the Cup. Many believe that a new surge in coronavirus cases and the so-called "second wave" began then.

In the first round of the SuperLiga, champions Red Star will play against Novi Pazar, while Partizan will play against Napredak from Krusevac.
