Wild Tara River replaced the sea for Serbians this summer: Thousands went rafting in Bosnia

The Tara river Canyon is the largest canyon in Europe, and the second largest in the world

Denied of swimming in salt water with the sound of sea waves, many Serbians found their salvation from the heat this summer, but also a real summer adventure in neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina. Rafting on the wild Tara this year is the choice of many. What you can find in the neighborhood is a real pearl of Europe similar to the American canyon in Colorado, an adrenaline-fueled descent by boats that carry you in fast waves through natural beauties.

"All our attempts to go on vacation somewhere this year were unsuccessful, borders were closed to the places where we wanted to go. The suggestion of a friend to go rafting on the Tara was the last solution, but what we experienced in three days in an environment such as the Tara canyon cannot be replaced with ten days at any seaside," Mariana Klajic told RINA.

The canyon of the River Tara is 60 km long and is the second deepest in the world, and the deepest in Europe, while the adrenaline-filled descent down the river is a true experience.

"If you come here for rafting in May - the adrenaline descent by boat when the water level of the river is very high and relentless, you can cross a section of 20 kilometers on the waves of Tara in an incredible half hour if you are in good physical condition, and continuously with other crew members on the boat able to row from start to finish. If you don't want to surrender your life to the waterfalls and the river's beaches, you can have a safe and comfortable ride in the safe hands of the skipper through these beautiful places in 4 to 5 hours, and see many caves, waterfalls, rare plants and animals, take a break in cafes by the river, as well as jump from rocks over 6 meters high," said Milomir Savic, the owner of the "Tri Vodenice" camp.

What leaves a special mark on this trip is a vacation in complexes blended into the naural environment  the wood cabins made of evergreen trees, pines or spruce which are abundant in the canyon.

"When the hosts in this area greet you with a glass of homemade brandy and some Krajina sense of humor, I think they will convince you to come again, sleep in wood cabins that smell of resin, or enjoy music by the campfire for less than 70 euros per person for four days of pleasure, that is a real vacation," added Klajic.

If the road leads you there, you must not miss the peaks of Maglic, the highest point in the Serb Republic (RS), as well as Trnovacko Lake, the Sand Pyramids and many beauties of this area that are within easy reach.
