Slovenia breaks all records: 707 new coronavirus cases in a day, new measures to be adopted urgently

Slovenia, a country that recorded numerous days in May and June without a single new coronavirus case, broke all records today with 707 new cases in the last 24 hours.

According to the authorities, 4,902 people had been tested. At this moment, 210 people are hospitalized, of which 35 are in critical condition.

Two people died since the previous report. Due to the current situation, the government is introducing new measures as those currently in force have not yielded the expected results.

According to 24ur.si, the infection has also entered nursing homes. In one home, the infection was registered in 37 residents and 15 employees, while in another, 27 residents and 11 employees tested positive.

Slovenia has recorded 202.75 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last two weeks.

This country entered the peak of the second wave in mid September and they started recording more than 100 patients a day, which was not happening even at the beginning of the pandemic. Unfortunately, the situation in this country has worsened in recent days, so they have been recording over 400 cases a day.

"New measures will be introduced, because the ones that are now in force have not yielded results," said Jelko Kacin, a spokesman for the government of Slovenia in charge of the coronavirus crisis.

According to him, the new numbers of infected people means that all conditions for the introduction of more strict measures from the penultimate, so-called orange phase have been met, which should limit the spread of the virus and its exponential growth.
