Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic said that the Jadar project can bring prosperity to Serbia, but only if it is done with the highest level of environmental protection and good communication with citizens.

Speaking for TV Happy, she said that, in addition to the Australian company Rio Tinto, several ministries will be involved in this project, as well as representatives of Loznica and the Macva District.

"I believe that if we all sit down together and find agreement, we can secure a better future for Serbia by using the mineral jadarite," Mihajlovic stressed.

She said that she understands that citizens are worried about the project's possible effects on the environment, since she knows what they went through because of the Zajac mine and the environmental problems it had caused.

Therefore, as she pointed out, citizens must be informed about everything, about the technologies that will be used and what the area will look like, so a small team will be created to deal with that.

According to her, Rio Tinto is a serious company that has built a pilot plant in Australia to test the technologies they would use.

"Jadarite is a new mineral that can bring prosperity, but it's important to do everything in an environmentally sustainable way. Knowing the growth of the electric cars battery market, that it is the future, and we have the raw materials, why not do it," said Mihajlovic.

She added that she believes the manufacturing of batteries for electric cars should be happening in Serbia.
