Dr. Djerlek: Serbia is in danger, virus is at high speed. Death toll could be as high as 50 a day

State Secretary in the Ministry of Health Professor Dr. Mirsad Djerlek says that the entire country is in danger and that the healthcare system and the state are investing superhuman efforts to find a place for every patient to be treated.

"Series of black records are being broken. The virus is at high speed. It has moved from nightclubs and cafes to families. We also have whole families in hospitals, two or three generations being treated together," Djerlek told TV Pink.

According to him, this was not happening in the first and second wave, and it is obvious that the third is much stronger according to the clinical picture, which is much more difficult, and that is why intensive care units are being filled up, which means a higher number of deaths.

"What scares the most is that we will go up in the next seven to 10 days. We will probably reach as many as 8,000 newly infected people a day, the number of deaths can be up to 50, which is really worrying," says Djerlek.

According to him, Belgrade no longer has 50 percent of new cases but some 30 percent, adding that there has been an overflow.

"Now we have bigger hotspots in Novi Sad, Kragujevac, Pancevo, Novi Pazar... the situation is very worrying in the whole country. By investing superhuman efforts, we try to find a place for each patient to be treated," pointed out Djerlek.
