Serbia is at the top of the world list in terms of the number of people infected with coronavirus in relation to the number of inhabitants, and only Georgia, Andorra and Luxembourg are ahead of us, the director of the WHO for Serbia, Marijan Ivanusa, said this morning.

He told TV Prva that he does not know if we are close to the introduction of police curfew, but that he knows the situation is serious.

"The measures have been tightened, we should wait to see the results, the situation is serious. These measures are effective, these are not optimal results, but it's better than no measures at all," said Ivanusa.

When asked whether Serbia has enough capacity to treat all people suffering from Covid, Ivanusa did not provide any optimistic prognosis.

"It depends on the capacity of the medical sector. If you have 7,000 infected people a day, and on average 20 percent of them will end up in the hospital, that is already a huge number of people in treatment. Take into account that all of them will spend ten days in the hospital," said Ivanusa.

He did not have better forecasts when it comes to the general improvement of the epidemiological situation, and announced that this would not happen until mid-December.

"I had hoped that the deterioration would stop by mid-November, but that did not happen. We will see in a week what results the measures will have. Slovenia has stricter measures, but the numbers are not significantly better. They reached the plateau on that curve and the spread has stopped to some extent, but the numbers are not significantly better, that is, they have not started to drop. It will not be better in mid-December either," said Ivanusa.

He also said that two vaccines against Covid are ready at the global level, but that their quantity is currently very limited. Serbia will most likely receive them at the end of the year or the beginning of the next, but they will be reserved only for priority groups.
