Two weeks before the Specialist Chambers (special court for KLA) arrested him and sent him to The Hague for trial, Democratic Party of Kosovo (DPK) President Kadri Veseli said he would surrender voluntarily and that there should be no arrest warrant if his indictment was confirmed.

According to a document released by the Specialist Chambers regarding the arrest warrants, Veseli's defense attorney Ben Emmerson asked the prosecution not to issue an arrest warrant at all if the indictment against his client was confirmed, because he would surrender voluntarily, Pristina based Koha writes.

Emmerson delivered the letter on October 21, five days before the indictment was confirmed, and two weeks before Veseli was taken to The Hague.

The lawyer stated in the letter that there is no evidence to justify the view that Veseli would run away or influence witnesses, as well as that Veseli is a well-known public figure who lives with his family in Pristina and performs several public political functions, which eliminates any risk of escape.
