Members of the Ministry of Interior, the Criminal Police Directorate, seized about 220 kilograms of marijuana and arrested Zivorad V. (72) from the village of Prosek near Nis on suspicion that he committed the crime of unauthorized production and distribution of narcotics.

"Two pistols with a silencer have been seized, as well as 850 packs of cigarettes, so a criminal complaint will also be filed against the suspect on suspicion that he committed criminal acts of illicit production, possession, carrying and trafficking of weapons and explosives and illicit trade," said the police.

However, no one in the village of Prosek near Nis on Monday could believe the news that went around Serbia that morning, about so much drugs being found in the house of their neighbor Zivorad, Novosti reports.

"Come on, people, what drugs, what weapons. Maybe they found something in another basement outside of Zivorad's household where he hadn't gone for a long time, or he rented it out to someone or someone noticed that he didn't go to that other basement and hid all those drugs and weapons. Zivorad's wife died last year, his son went to America, returned, opened a cafe and then went abroad again, I think to Australia," the locals told reporters.

Disbelief was everywhere - in the village store, in the tavern, in the drugstore.

"He worked for Electronic Industry a long time ago, and later retired. I'm really surprised that the police found all that on him, as I hear in the basement. That must be investigated because he never, but never belonged to the criminal milieu, there was never any suspicion of it," says Suzana Vukic, who works in the local drugstore.

She adds that Zivorad recently injured his leg and had difficulty moving.

"Zivorad is also elderly, he could barely make a little brandy, and a vital man is needed to grow drugs," she said.

The suspect has been detained for up to 48 hours and will then be brought before the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Nis along with a criminal complaint.
