Due to the great efforts of employees, the Covid-19 infection has not entered the 19 reception and asylum centers in Serbia, where 6,015 migrants live, 660 children among them, the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration announced.

On International Migrants Day, which is being marked today, the Commissariat said that Serbia has one of the best regulated systems for accepting and managing migration in Europe and that it continues to act responsibly, in an organized and humane manner, writes Tanjug.

According to the nationality structure, most migrants come from Afghanistan, Syria and Pakistan, and special attention is paid to the protection of vulnerable categories, women, children, unaccompanied minors, the elderly and the sick.

Migrant children have access to mandatory pre-school and primary education, while some also attend secondary school, a statement said.

The Commissariat recalled that since the 1990s, more than 800,000 refugees from former Yugoslav republics and internally displaced persons from Kosovo and Metohija have sought refuge in Serbia, who are taken care of using money from the state budget and from donor funds.

The Commissariat said that coronavirus did not enter reception centers to a greater extent thanks to the great efforts made by the centers' employees.
