Montenegrin foreign minister says he wants to "reset" relations with Serbia

Radulovic said that Montenegro and Serbia have relations based at the system level, which, he said, means that regardless of who is in power, even if they don't agree on all issues, Montenegro and Serbia will be close and cooperate

Montenegro wants to reset relations with Serbia and start from scratch, Montenegrin Foreign Minister Djordje Radulovic said today.

Radulovic chose Germany for his first visit abroad after taking office as foreign minister in the new Montenegrin government, and ahead of that visit he told Deutsche Welle that Montenegro has a "zero-problem doctrine" with all neighbors in the region which, as a region, "may not be the most suitable for promoting such a doctrine."

"Montenegro, although not economically or militarily strong, still wants to influence relations in the region by leading by example. This also refers to Serbia, with which we want to have best relations based on the principle of two independent countries, mutual respect and based on the principle of non-interference in internal affairs," said Radulovic.

Even more important, he says, is that Montenegro and Serbia have relations based at the system level, which according to him means that regardless of who is in power, even if they don't agree on all issues, Montenegro and Serbia will be close and cooperate.

"That is why at the very beginning I sent an invitation to (Serbian) Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic to visit Podgorica, while (Montenegrin) Prime Minister Krivokapic did the same and invited Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic to come to Montenegro at the end of this month. I think that these are some signs of friendship that Montenegro, as a good neighbor, is extending towards Serbia," says Radulovic.
