Perhaps the saddest Epiphany swimming, with Covid measures: All 12 participants win in icy Sava Lake

While before the pandemic people would on this day swim in cold water all over Serbia, this year Epiphany was marked only in Belgrade, on River Sava's Ada Ciganlija island, with a limited number of swimmers taking part

Without a procession, without a large number of participants, with face masks, with attendance of members of the Svibor association and Minister of the Interior Aleksandar Vulin, people today swam for the Holy Cross on Ada Ciganlija.

On the Orthodox feast of Epiphany, only 12 swimmers jumped into the cold water of the Sava Lake.

Due to the danger from coronavirus, the Serbian Orthodox Church decided that the traditional event would this year have only a symbolic character.

After the service in the church of St. George (Sv. Djordje) in Banovo Brdo, a small number of participants descended down to Ada Ciganlija, where they swam to retreive the Holy Cross.

For the first time, there was no winner - instead all swimmers took this title.
