The police in Montenegro have arrested N.E. (44) from Podgorica on suspicion of committing the crime of trafficking in humans to the detriment of his underage daughter.

According to a police statement, N.E. is suspected of "abusing a relationship of dependence, recruiting, transporting and selling L.E., his underage daughter (15) for the purpose of her entering into an illicit marriage, in order to obtain financial gain in the amount of 20,000 euros."

"In September 2020, the suspect agreed with a family from Germany on the illicit marriage between his underage daughter L.E. and their son, by handing the daughter over to his cousin, whom he gave the power of attorney to transport the minor to Germany, which he did. He handed her over to the family in Germany for the purpose the illicit marriage," says a statement submitted to the Telegraf.rs portal.

During her stay in Montenegro in December, the minor reported this case to the police.

"The Police Administration has undertaken activities within its competence and deprived N.E. of his liberty, who was later brought before the state prosecutor at the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica for further jurisdiction," the statement added.
