Kisic: Weekend measures are a warning! Those back from vacation jumping queue to get hospitalized

"As for the measures for this weekend, the question is whether it is enough to limit opening hours to 2 pm, whether only two days are enough. Well, of course it isn't"

Dr. Darija Kisic Tepavcevic has told TV Prva's morning program that the measures adopted for this weekend are a warning to all of us.

"We have known for more than a year how this virus is transmitted and how we can contribute so that we and our environment don't get infected. The virus is transmitted 24 hours a day, if something is open until a certain time, it doesn't mean we should go there. Indeed, isn't that shifting the blame to others. We must understand that it is entirely up to us to prevent infection. As for the measures for this weekend, the question is whether it is enough to limit opening hours to 2 pm, whether only two days are enough. Well, of course it isn't. The virus has long since surpassed all sectors and we do not have a timeline for how long it will last, whether until spring, summer, fall," said Dr. Kisic.

"These measures for the weekend are a warning for all of us to say that the situation is not good, that the virus is here, that we are carried on the wings of the vaccine that we have. That should be clear to everyone. Our doctors are running out of energy. Yesterday, we read that over 600 healthcare workers are positive, 16 are hospitalized. No single measure will bring results," she added.

She also commented on organizing parties.

"I don't know who they think they are harming when organizing them. We are all eager to celebrate, but we all suffer if individuals behave irresponsibly," says Dr. Kisic, and then touched on skiing vacations this winter.

"We all know that we love to go skiing, but really this year is different from all the previous ones. Whoever allowed themselves such luxury to go to the mountains, should know that they cannot behave like in previous years because many return from the mountains sick. They immediately seek hospital accommodation, they seek it immediately and before others, and only then do they see that the virus is serious."

"People are impatient and we are all tired of masks and this way of life. They will surely say, 'Now even you don't wear a mask in the studio'. We are at a safe distance and the fact is that we know that both you and I have immunity. And there will be more and more such situations, to know for sure that you have immunity and that the people around you have immunity. But we have to be a little more patient. A higher degree of collective immunity will protect those who have not been vaccinated, those who could not receive the vaccine."

"It is not only the protection of oneself and one's own health, but also of the environment. We keep mentioning the word 'collective'. We cannot succeed here if we are not united and act as one collective that has a common goal," says Kisic and adds:

"It has now proved to be the rule that people relaxed after the first dose of the vaccine. A second dose of the vaccine would not be needed if a significant number of people could develop immunity after the first dose," she said, and added this is not about revaccination, but about receiving two doses of the same vaccine, in order to create a certain amount of antibodies, while in some cases we must wait another two to three weeks after the second dose.

The vaccine itself will not work a miracle unless we contribute to it with our behavior, the doctor explained.

"Masks will be a part of our everyday life for a longer period of time. Weather conditions do not affect the virus, it has no season, no one is safe by themselves, but everyone can do a lot to prevent the spread of infection."
