Director of the Institute of Public Health of Serbia "Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut" Verica Jovanovic has told RTS that transmission of coronavirus in the population has increased and that this is happening everywhere, but added that it's important that everyone respects the measures that are talked about all the time, and that is to wear masks, reduce contacts and maintain distance.

"These are measures that we should keep in mind with each new day, in order to protect ourselves, our family and those around us," said the director of the Batut Institute.

According to her, stopping transmission is a way to stop the spread of Covid in Serbia, along with vaccination.

The Crisis HQ is sitting today, and Verica Jovanovic said that all possibilities would be considered.

"We will certainly go for stricter individual measures that each of us should apply," said Jovanovic.

When asked about PCR tests when entering Serbia, possible bans on gatherings and measures of control, the Batut director said that all that should be considered, and that it remains to be seen which decisions will be made.

"But, the key decision is an appeal to apply individual protection measures and to use all protective measures," said Jovanovic.

She also appealed for the continuation of immunization and pointed out that the task of the healthcare system and society is to call on everyone to be vaccinated as soon as possible.

She recalled that the virus is not present only in Serbia, but that the consequences are happening in the entire world. She said that there are more and more severe cases in hospitals and that many patients require semi-intensive and intensive therapy, which is a great burden on both healthcare workers and patients.
