Vucic: I'll be taking the train to Novi Sad, it's both nicer and faster than the busy highway

On April 1, 2020, there were about 600 workers and almost 200 pieces of machinery on the construction site of the high-speed railway between Belgrade and Stara Pazova. What's it like there now?

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic today toured the works on the Zemun railway station - a part of the high-speed Belgrade-Stara Pazova railway, as well as the final works to build a viaduct and the laying of the tracks over the viaduct in Beska - another portion of the same railway.

On April 1, 2020, there were about 600 workers and almost 200 pieces of machinery on the construction site of the high-speed railway between Belgrade and Stara Pazova.

The works are being carried out by Chinese companies China Communications Construction Company and China Railway International. The railway between Belgrade and Stara Pazova is 34.5 kilometers long, and the project envisages the construction of a new station building in Zemun.

"The station looks nice. Serbia is making the most progress in everything, but the Hungarians will also do a good job," the president said, referring to the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway (of which Belgrade-Stara Pazova is a section).

When will it all be done?, Vucic asks.  The part that is built by the Chinese companies will be finished at the end of September this year, they told him.

"With great gratitude, I also told this to (Chinese Ambassador) Chen Bo, this is the other face of Serbia. We haven't been taking trains for a long time. We forgot about the railway," Vucic pointed out, and added, "I'll be taking the train to Novi Sad, it's both nicer and faster than the highway that is always busy."

"Will you really start working properly, or will you procrastinate?," Vucic asks, regarding the section from Novi Sad to Subotica. He received an affirmative answer, that everything will be as it should be.

"We will have the most modern railway in this part of Europe, in less than a year," the president of Serbia points out. The Belgrade-Stara Pazova section has six stations. Everything between the 6th and the 11th track in Zemun has been completed. The Batajnica station was the most difficult for the Chinese, they said, replying to Vucic.

"Our workers also work at night, in two shifts," says one of the representatives.

"What are all these rails needed for?," Vucic asks. "They are prepared for the track that is currently being worked on." The president once again praises the work of Chinese companies.

He also reveals that he will get vaccinated soon, and said that we should "hurry up with the vaccination, so that we can open everything, including cafes and restaurants."
