Minister of Environmental Protection Irena Vujovic and Deputy Mayor of the City of Belgrade Goran Vesic spoke today about the planned amendments to the Law on Noise and the dynamics of the adoption of this act, in order to improve mechanisms for solving noise problems coming from hospitality establishments, that citizens feel the most during the summer season.

Vujovic and Vesic spoke about the amendments to the law allowing the communal police and environmental protection inspectors to, according to the citizens reports, measure the noise level on the ground.

"Noise that comes from certain hospitality and other facilities, especially in residential buildings, is not acceptable for citizens," said Vujovic, and added:

"In order to solve this problem more efficiently, it is necessary to change regulations, primarily in the part so that the Republic (state) inspectors and the communal city police can react immediately. We have to be solving this problem together, so that we can help citizens who have a problem with the noise."

The minister and the deputy mayor also agreed on cooperation when it comes to controlling water pollution.

The ship Argus, which is a scientific laboratory, will be used to control pollution, primarily on the Sava River. The ship will be used during weekends, since it has been noticed that some economic entities release illegal substances into the river on the weekends.

"I am making an appeal on all economic entities to respect the law. Environmental protection inspectors and the communal police of the City of Belgrade will jointly, using the ship Argus, control whether the pollution of the Sava has increased. We will impose the strictest penalties on all economic entities that we determine have violated the law," said Vujovic.
