First high-speed train arriving in Serbia: Internet and hot drinks on Novi Sad route

The first train capable of traveling up to 200 kilometers per hour, which Serbia ordered from the eminent Swiss company Stadler, will be delivered in five months, Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Tomislav Momirovic announced on Monday.

During a visit to Stadler's production facilities in Zurich, Minister Momirovic and the Serbian delegation saw electric engine sets that will be delivered to Serbia, as well as production capacities, the work process and the complete offer.

In accordance with the contract, the deadline for delivery of the first train is October 31, 2021 while the second the and third should be delivered on December 31, 2021, the ministry announced. These are four-part electric engine sets with a total capacity of 316 seats, including seats to accommodate people with reduced mobility.

"They showed us, in the assembly phase, the first fast trains that will travel at 200 kilometers per hour from Belgrade to Novi Sad. These trains are the future, and not a distant, but a close one. The same trains run on Swiss and Austrian high-speed railways and represent the pinnacle of quality and safety," said Momirovic.

According to a statement from his ministry, Momirovic said that Serbia is interested in forging a strategic partnership with Stadler, with the intention to, if conditions are created, start production of these modern trains in the country as well.

"They presented the history and capacities of the Stadler company and we are impressed by the scope of their business, across the entire European Union to Ukraine and beyond. Just like we are cooperating with numerous companies from around the world, and as we have attracted them to invest in Serbia, we will invite Stadler to cooperate," said Momirovic.

During the tour of the company's production capacities and the presentation of electric engine sets, the minister also met with Dobrivoje Mihajlovic, one of the quality controllers in the Stadler production plant.

"They pleasantly surprised me when they revealed to me that a Serbian is also participating in the production and assembly of these first Serbian high-speed trains. We have hard-working and smart people who work across Europe in most responsible jobs, and I hope that one day we will create the conditions for those same jobs to be in Serbia," said Momirovic.

The Belgrade-Novi Sad high-speed railway designed for speeds up to 200 km per hour will be completed by the end of the year, followed by the testing of the railway and trains, while citizens will be able to travel in new and modern trains from the beginning of next year.

"These trains are a real marvel of technology and safety, they have a modern design, exceptional comfort, first and second class seats, special seats for the disabled and absolute accessibility for people with reduced mobility, internet connection, and even a hot drinks machine," they say in the ministry of construction, transport and infrastructure.
