Vucic and Szijjarto meet: "Serbia must join the European Union as soon as possible"

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic met today with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Szijjarto, with whom he discussed further improvement of bilateral cooperation, Serbia's European path, fight against the Covid pandemic, transit capacities, gas supply and use, and strategic partnership between the two countries in a number of areas.

President Vucic said that political relations between Serbia and Hungary are the best they have been in history and stressed that the personal and friendly relationship with Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban made an important contribution to improving bilateral ties.

President Vucic praised the measures that the Government of Hungary has been implementing with great determination since the beginning of the pandemic in order to prevent its further spread, protect the health of its citizens and preserve the economy.

Speaking about Serbia's EU integration, President Vucic thanked Hungary for the strong and continuous support it provides to our country at the highest political level, but also through numerous training programs, development assistance and by sending experts who are helping the Serbian government in the EU integration process.

"We are especially grateful for the personal commitment of Minister Szijjarto and top Hungarian officials, who emphasize on all occasions that Serbia must join the European Union as soon as possible," President Vucic stressed and added that Serbia remains committed to the European path and implementation of reforms.

Minister Szijjarto stressed particularly the exceptional relations with Serbia, as well as close cooperation and friendly ties between the two countries, which have been reaffirmed through strong solidarity and understanding during the fight against the Covid pandemic.
