Son suspected of killing mother with an ax in Backa Palanka: Second murder in Vojvodina in 5 days

A woman about 54 years of age was yesterday found dead in her house in Backa Palanka, in the province of Vojvodina, while her 28-year-old son has been detained.

The Ministry of the Interior announced that police officers in Novi Sad arrested S.P. (28), on suspicion that he committed the crime of aggravated murder.

"It is suspected that he killed his 54-year-old mother with an ax in the family home. The suspect will be detained for up to 48 hours and will be brought, along with a criminal complaint, before the senior public prosecutor in Novi Sad," the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.

Neighbors told the media that a team of forensic experts arrived at the scene at around 5 pm, and they also saw a large number of police officers from the intervention unit. They added that they saw the police arrest the son of the murdered woman.

The tragedy happened yesterday at around 3 pm in the family home in the town of Backa Palanka.

According to Prva TV, it is suspected that the unfortunate woman was killed with an ax. The victim's son, who has been detained, should be brought before the prosecutor soon.

The mother and the son lived alone in the house, while the daughter of the victim noticed that something strange was happening and informed the police, who came to the scene.

When they arrived, they could only establish that the woman was dead.

This is the second family murder in Vojvodina in the last five days. Earlier in the week, reports said that a woman was killed in Kovin. The victim's son is a suspect in that case as well.
