In the village of Negbine in Novi Varos a wildfire has flared up again, which three days ago covered an area of about 150 hectares of forest and low lying vegetation. It started most likely when a lightning struck a cliff.

Ilija Ilic told the RINA agency that many locals lost tens of hectares of coniferous forest.

"About seven hectares of mine burned, and the woods belonging to Ilics, Kuzeljevics, Perisics and Djenics got damaged," he said.

Ilija says that a sleepless night is behind them and that they are afraid for their homes because the fire has not been localized, although the authorities claimed that it was under control.

This morning around 5 o'clock, three helicopters with members of the Helicopter Unit and the Sector for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of the Interior headed in the direction of Negbina, in order to prevent the possibility of the fires spreading due to high temperatures, strong wind and inaccessible terrain. Another helicopter will join them during the morning.

The helicopter unit of the Ministry of the Interior (MUP) got involved in extinguishing the fire together with more than 70 firefighters-rescuers from Nova Varos, Prijepolje, Užzce, Cacak, Kragujevac, Kraljevo, Novi Pazar, Jagodina, Krusevac, Belgrade, Valjevo, Novi Sad and Prokuplje, who have been fighting the blaze for three days with 22 vehicles.
