Epidemiologist and member of the Crisis HQ Branislav Tiodorovic said today that everything indicates that the Delta strain of coronavirus is now dominant in Serbia and that it will strengthen, which is evident in a smaller-scale influx of patients to hospitals.

Tiodorovic told RTS that it was expected that after the return of citizens from vacation (abroad), there would be an increase in the number of people positive for coronavirus. According to him, a serious approach is necessary, but the situation is still under control.

"We have a small number of hospitalized patients in the whole country. I think we should be careful, but there is no room for panic. People who return from summer vacations should take care of themselves and check themselves," Tiodorovic stressed.

He said that he did not believe that control PCR testing would be introduced for citizens who are returning to the country from vacation, and added that citizens can enter the country even if they are positive for coronavirus.

Tidorovic also said that we are close to the decision on mandatory vaccination for health workers.

"The recommendation of vaccination of health workers is made with the best intentions, as well as educators and kindergarten teachers in order to protect their health, but also the health of their students and patients," Tiodorovic pointed out.

He expects the number of vaccinated people to start growing when they see the number of cases increase again. He pointed out that the goal is to try with a lot of effort to ensure that the school year goes normally, while online teaching is applied only in limited cases.

"We have an agreement that if we cross 500 new cases on a daily basis, we should think about new measures, while gatherings will be limited when the number reaches 1,000," Tiodorovic stressed.
