Bosnia and Herzegovina sends a note to Serbia over arrest of their citizen

Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has sent a requests to receive official and complete information on the status of the arrested person, E.V.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH Bisera Turkovic has ordered the Embassy of BiH in Serbia to react immediately and receive official and complete information from the authorities in Belgrade about the status of the arrested E.V.

The note has already been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, the minister announced on Facebook.

"The Ministry and the Embassy of BiH in Belgrade will immediately get involved in the case and offer all possible assistance to the citizen of BiH. Previously, Bosnia and Herzegovina repeatedly called on Serbia to respect all previously reached agreements that address the issue of prosecution of war crimes," Turkovic wrote.

The Police Service for War Crimes Investigation of the Ministry of the Interior of Serbia, in cooperation with the Border Police Administration and the Priboj Police Station, arrested on Sunday at the Uvac Border Crossing a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, E.V. (56) for whom the police searched, suspecting him of having committed a war crime against prisoners of war.

"He is accused of participating, in the period from January 1993 until October 1994 as an investigator in the camp in Gorazde, in the abuse and beating of prisoners of war of Serb nationality who were members of the Army of the RS," the Ministry of the Interior said in a statement.

The suspect is detained for up to 48 hours, and will be brought before the War Crimes Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade, along with a criminal complaint.

Media reports that the suspect's name is Edin Vranje.
