Covid attacks heart, youths dying more often, have 1 thing in common: Dr. Zdravkovic on Delta strain

The number of people positive for the new coronavirus in Serbia has exceeded 7,000 per day in recent days, and the number of deaths is growing day by day.

More and more hospitals are returning to the Covid system, and Dr. Marija Zdravkovic, director of the Clinical and Hospital Center (KBC) Bezanijska Kosa in Belgrade, says that we are now struggling with something we should not be struggling with, because we have had enough time and enough vaccines to get vaccinated, but now we all are paying for that mistake, not just those who have not gotten the jab.

"The clinical picture of those who got vaccinated is much milder," Dr. Zdravkovic told RTS.

"Fortunately, these people, even if they are older, even if they have numerous comorbidities, after long intensive treatment, we are managing to discharge them for further home treatment and rehabilitation, considering that Covid leaves significant consequences."

What is especially worrying is that in this wave dominated by the Delta strain, young people are especially affected.

"Younger people, on the other hand, who would be expected to get over this disease more easily, have extremely great complications since they have not been vaccinated, unfortunately, often with fatal outcomes," stressed Dr. Zdravkovic.

According to her, in many people, Covid-19 "strikes" the heart:

"If I tell you that 292 patients who have had coronavirus have inflammation in the heart muscle, which means that this is where malignant arrhythmias, fatigue, and lack of strength can start from, and that there are complications, while no one has been admitted with suspicion of myocarditis from the vaccine, since that is described in a very rare number of cases in global scientific literature, but in our work we have not seen it."

Dr. Zdravkovic previously warned that coronavirus infection is more dangerous than Coxsackie virus, because it causes swelling in the heart muscle.
