Although it previously banned the Youth Initiative for Human Rights NGO from organizing a public gathering in order to remove a mural dedicated to General Ratko Mladic, the police today secured the place as a precaution.

The mural depicting the former commander of the Army of the Serb Republic (VSR), Ratko Mladic, who has been sentenced to life in prison in The Hague, was painted this summer on the corner of Njegoseva and Alekse Nenadovica streets in Belgrade. The Youth Initiative for Human Rights asked for permission to gather to remove the mural on November 9, International Day Against Fascism.

However, the Ministry of the Interior banned this gathering.

"No one will clash on the streets in Belgrade and spoil the lives of our citizens," said the minister of the interior.

No other gathering will be allowed tpoday in Njegoseva Street, because there is danger of jeopardizing the safety of citizens and disturbing public order and peace, the Ministry of the Interior announced.

Despite that, the police today secured the place where the mural is located, just in case.
