Wine tourism has been intensively developing in the territory of the municipality of Topola in recent years. There are more and more locals deciding to open their rural households to visitors, with a tour of vineyards and tasting of red and white wines made from top quality grapes that grow on the hills of Oplenac.

"Topola has exceptional tourist potential. There are many things that can attract tourists, above all fantastic landscapes, historical heritage and gastronomy.

During the epidemic, visits by guests from abroad were reduced, but in the coming period we must increase the number of overnight stays, and rural households and wine tourism are important to us as one of the activities that the municipality can offer," says Dragana Kostic from the Tourism Organization Oplenac.

This year for the first time, the local self-government supported rural tourist households with a new measure, giving 150,000 dinars to all registered households that perform the said activity.

There are currently 12 registered rural households in Topola, six of which are in the high four-star category.

"We are currently working on a project for the Israeli market, an agency from Belgrade asked us to do a survey of rural households that would meet their criteria and we can say that as many as four or five meet those criteria," said Kostic.

What is certainly promising when it comes to additional development of tourism is a growing number of wineries that are springing up in Topola, while winemakers are turning to the market.

They are moving from family production to a higher level by building tasting rooms and expanding their capacities, making themselves more recognizable to wine lovers.
